Jean-Jacque Robert Denogent and his son Nicolas thoughtfully farm a small selection of old vine Chardonnay in Solutre—Pouilly and Fuisse—the heart of the Macconais. The father son duo follow rigorous standards of production in search of the best expression of each terroir, farming organically, and hand harvesting grapes with minimal intervention in the natural process of vine-growing resulting in smaller, more concentrated yields. Cuvee “Sardines” is sourced from 40 to 50 year old vines grown throughout the Domaine. Fermented naturally, the wine rests for up to 18 months in barrel before being bottled, a treatment more common in the Cote d’Or, but setting the Denogents apart from the rest of the Macconais. Rich and toasty with notes of juicy red apple and fresh brioche, this precise expression of Chardonnay is intense and defined with mouthwatering acidity and exuberant length.
