Following on the 2010 vintage Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva (named Wine spectator's Wine of the Year in 2020), the 2011 vintage does not disappoint. Almost 85% Tempranillo with the balance Mazuelo (Carignan), this vintage saw 28 months in French and American oak before a long rest in bottles before release. While 2011 was a hotter vintage in Rioja, the Mazuelo helps to retain acidity in this powerful expression. Red fruits and herbs, along with characteristic oak notes of vanilla and a touch of dill. Expect this to continue to impress for a number of years.
