Mt. Etna isn't just any volcano and Gaja isn't just any producer. So when the Barbaresco legend purchased land in Sicily, the wine world erupted.
In the family's first ever joint venture, Angelo Gaja teamed up with Sicilian star, Alberto Graci. Together they are exploring the southern slope of Etna in search of vineyards that express the elegance and complexity of Europe's highest active volcano.
Their new project, named IDDA, is Sicilian for 'she,' a term of endearment and an expression of awe with which Sicilians refer to Mt. Etna.
After years of anticipation, their debut vintage has finally been released...and was it worth the wait.
Ruby red and bursting with a luscious bouquet of aromatics, their inaugural Etna Rosso is a classic blend of Nerello Mascalese with a hint of Nerello Capuccio. The palate is strikingly Burgundian in style with delicate layers of sweet fruit, tart cherry, and soft herbal notes. Elegant and perfectly balanced, it's easy to taste why this partnership is one of the most important events in Sicilian winemaking history.
