From the famed Gaja family, this wine is produced from the first Cabernet Sauvignon planted post-phylloxera in Piedmont on a single vineyard site situated in the municipality of Barbaresco. Darmagi (involuntarily named by Giovanni Gaja, Angelo’s father, who, because when Cabernet Sauvignon was planted instead of Nebbiolo, exclaimed in his Piedmontese dialect, “Darmagi” or “What a pity!”) is a beautiful 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense cassis and blueberries leap from the glass with hints of forest notes, such as tree bark and sweet wood. The tannins are soft, with velvety mouthfeel that warms the soul.
