Venturing out to find a true over-deliverer in the domestic Cabernet category, let alone under $30, is truly no easy task these days. However, if there were ever prime fishing waters, they are to be found in Washington State. The Columbia Valley AVA, and particularly its sub-AVA of Red Mountain where the Hedges Family Estate is based, offer exceptional promise for more classically styled expressions of Cabernet. Made by second-generation female winemaker Sarah Hedges Goedhart, this organic, vegan wine makes for an excellent pour by the bonfire or across a table full of grilled steaks and burgers.
