The Clos de la Cave des Ducs vineyard lies in the heart of Volnay, nestled amongst village buildings, and completely surrounded by walls (hence the ‘Clos’). With some vines dating to 1940, Leroux aims to do as little as possible in the cellar, using ambient yeast and only de-stemming half of the bunches prior to fermentation. Gentle aging, half in tank and half in barrel, helps to showcase the purity of the dark fruit aromas with a touch of baking spice and lots of depth.
