Le Piane Boca 2019
On a trip to Boca in the 1990s, Christoph Kuenzli and oenologist Alexander Trolf met and became acquainted with Antonio Cerri—who was more than 80 years old and one of the last winegrowers in the region to produce Boca wine. Cerri later passed his 0.5 hectares vineyard, cellar, and old vintages on to the duo. Today the winery encompasses an area of 8 hectares of vines. Their Boca DOC is 85% Nebbiolo and 15% Vespolina aged in barrels for up to 4 years. This wine is expressively full, showcasing powerful notes of wild fruits, violets, and tobacco. Pairs well with a variety of meats and cheeses, but most exceptionally with game.
