Constructed in the early 1500s, the Castel of Verduno has been producing wine since the Burlotto family purchased it from the House of Savoy in 1909. Now under the direction of Mario Andrion, the estate, which is found in the northernmost commune of Barolo, farms organically and uses minimal S02 to create traditional, elegant wines. This wine is bright and energetic, with zippy red berry acidity, beautiful white flower aromas, and the classic cinnamon and dried cherry notes of Nebbiolo. This young wine would shine with a tuna tartare with avocado or a pasta in a light tomato sauce.
